And with Season 11 bringing back the old vibes, these complex characters have a lot of life in them yet.
The aim of this project is to resurrect some of the X-Files Fan Fiction from the Wayback Machine without compromising the privacy of authors who no longer want their fics archived under their original names. A pseudonym is allocated for any authors who no longer want their names associated with their "youthful indiscretions". This can be an established pen name that they've provided before, or we may make slight changes to the spelling of a name or use/remove initials to make a name more common. This is in no way an attempt to remove the rights of the original author, but to protect their right to privacy while keeping their masterpieces out where they can be enjoyed.
Whilst these stories are generally available via the Wayback Machine Internet Archive, and many are on Gossamer, they're not searchable there, and can't be linked to at Gossamer. Any author or site that has been resurrected here is one we love, and we think they deserve to be exhumed and returned to life a'la Mulder after the time and effort that was put into creating them.
Where possible we try to retain as much as we can of the original stories and layouts, especially where entire sites or parts of sites are recreated, as we want them to be close to the author's original creations as possible. This means a lot of old .txt files, and some ancient HTML. However, images are often missing and have to be recreated, usually without knowing what the originals looked like. If anyone has any we're missing, please send them our way, we can guarantee the originals looked better.
Also, in the interest of a more pleasurable browsing experience, we may remove or dull down some elements to avoid contributing to seizures and eye strain. We apologise if you came for the full 90s experience of distracting backgrounds and flashing gifs. We also remove non-working elements such as web rings, counters, and links which can no longer be accessed. And embedded .wav files will be automatically be removed because we never could stand those.
It is important to recognize that these works are being resurrected without the permission of the original authors. In the beginning an attempt was made to contact the owners of the sites or stories, but with contact emails often being between at least 15 years old the success rate was nil and attempts to contact were abandoned. If you are an author featured here and have stumbled across your work, please appreciate that it's here because it's still bringing happiness to new generations of fans. If for some reason you want it allocated a different pen name or removed, please contact us.
Feel free to link directly to any works on this site as long as your link is done under the assigned pseudonym. However, some archives have been uploaded but haven't yet been fully checked for missing items. These have been excluded from search engines until maintenance is done. Please check the index page of the site/directory, if there is a note that the page is still being archived, please contact us before linking to stories that appear to be a real name prior to linking. We do attempt to remove names we know authors don't want to share before uploading but can miss the odd one until we go through each page checking links. Thanks for your co-operation with this; we understand that it's not the best way to operate but the actual resurrection of a site is a slow process when pages and images are missing and thousands of links need to be updated. Fortunately there are ways to do these things in bulk or this would take years!
